Every picture tells a story...
the subject of today's MonoMonday.
The story this picture tells is that Winchester is a very old city. You likely wouldn't chose to build on what is essentially marshland with a network of waterways running through it. The centre of the old town is where it's lowest, right here, in fact, in The Broadway, opposite the Guildhall and next to the bus station.
I had to go to the chemist today to pick up prescriptions. Outside it on the roadway there is a very large puddle. There is always a puddle here when it's wet. The water table comes up to the level of the drain cover (and sometimes above it). The drain's unblocked several times a year, but it just gets blocked again so the edge of the roadway fills with water. That's what you're seeing here, the puddle - rotated, flipped and fartnarkled. I know it's not my usual kind of shot but you have to amuse yourself somehow on such a dire rainy day!!
Thanks to Chantler 63 for hosting this month.
And enjoy your evening xx
