Anemone

I've probably written about this before, but "anemone" was one of those words that took me ages to learn how to pronounce properly*.  Others were words like "academy" & "misled" - words that I only ever read and had never heard spoken.  And I've never been able to read those pronunciation guides in Dictionaries - "əˈnɛm.ə.ni" is just gibberish to me. How do you pronounce an upside down "e"?   Or a back-to-front "3"?

It matters not.  I say ah-nemm-O-knee and not anna-moan.

And yes, I didn't have a clue how to pronounce "Hermione" in the Harry Potter books.  I'd never see the name Hermione before. "hɜːˈmaɪ.ə.nɪ"? What?

And so, yes, it has been a bit of a weird day.

And your challenge for tomorrow - get both of these words into one sentence - deipnosophist & dasypygal.  Your choice if it is a work or social context.

You can work out the pronunciation  for yourself ;-).
