Edith Stein Statue, Aylesford

Before today I did not know about Edith Stein (1891 - 1942). She was a German Jewish philosopher who converted to Roman Catholicism and became a Carmelite nun. As the war progressed she was moved to the Netherlands for her own safety but in 1942 she was arrested by the Nazis because she was born Jewish. She was sent to Auschwitz and died in the concentration camp there. She is canonised as a martyr and a saint and is known as St. Teresa Benedicta Of The Cross.
In our village we have a Carmelite Priory and this beautiful statue of her is in an alcove of one of the windows.
