Triangulation, Aylesford
Treated myself to the photography book Where I Find Myself by Joel Meyerowitz. He's a wonderful photographer, probably best known for his street photography from the Sixties and early Seventies but he has changed his subject matter and even the way he took photographs many times over the succeeding decades. The book is an engrossing, fascinating and intelligent look back on his career and full of insights about how he saw and sees the world. I particularly liked the detail about when he changed from a 35mm camera to a large format 10 x 8 camera it completely changed the way he looked and thought about photography and what his subject matter could be.
It also taught me about his creative process and that he wasn't afraid to move from street photography to still life work. So in his honour I decided to try something different today - I'm not sure how it's worked out but I'm glad I've had a go. Sometimes I think I dismiss ideas too quickly when it could well be better to just go with them and see where they lead me.
