Taken as Red

Today I went to check out a walk with Rob, author of Walking South Yorkshire. On Sunday he is leading the walk as part of the Off the Shelf Literary Festival in Sheffield. It explores one of the local ancient woodlands, surprising close to Meadowhall shopping centre. This time I am not doing my usual role as back marker but as a fungi expert! (I suspect I am a backup, as Ziggy, the real expert has been suffering from self-diagnosed man-flu).
After the reccy, I walked part of the way back to town along the River Don, where I also saw lots of fungi, and a goosander on the river, a bird for which I have a soft spot as it was my first ever blip, the start of an amazing journey. However, I decided it was time for the annual Fly Agaric blip, as they seem to be at their prime at the moment. Always a crowd pleaser, they have so many stories, myths and legends around them. These were part of a small group in a cemetery close to the river.
