Woody

Having seen some of the wildlife pictures around I was not sure whether to post this. I had a blip in mind from yesterday as I had seen an old post in one of the little stream/river that runs into the Itchen and liked the way the post reflected on the water. I even had a couple of good photos, I decided I was not going to cheat and I went back to photograph it again. Maybe the light was different or I had not got the same settings on the camera or maybe I just remembered it better than it really was but I was not impressed with today's effort when I saw on the screen.
I glanced up and saw there was a lot of bird activity in the garden around the feeders. Then I saw on one of the fence posts this Great Spotted Woodpecker. Fortunately the lens is on the tripod so I fitted the camera and tried to open the door as quietly as I good; no quietly enough as it flew away. I left the door open and hoped it would come back on to one of the feeders near the house; in the end it did come back but on the feeder further away.
I have a whole bunch of crap shots with the low light, incorrect ISO and the feeder swaying about but this one is OK.
This is a male bird as it has a red patch on the nape.
