High High I'm A Bird In The Sky

My Dear Princess and Dear Fellows,

This is a view of the harbour at lunchtime. You can see a massive cruise ship just leaving - WHOOOOOOONKING as it went. On the left of the picture you can see the big kina - giant sculptures of Kiwi sea urchins, and I fully expect those tourists will have picked up some kina shells as NZ keepsakes of their visit.

I was kept pretty busy today, which was good. The day flew by. It did mean though, that when I got in, I was pretty knackered. I put my head down for 10 minutes and the next thing I knew it was 90 minutes later.

Feeling slightly wobbly and half-asleep, I realised I had chores to do -

- Clean out the fridge
- Change the cat-boxes
- Make dinner

THIS was a job for my 1970's playlists! I decided to put on "1977" and soon I was grooving to Abba while at the same time trying not to breathe in weewee fumes from Punky & Jasper's litterbox.

We have students living downstairs, and occasionally we hear their music. Now I don't wish to be dismissive of the tastes of the young folk but yes I do. It is all that crap autotuned R&B bollocks and you can't hear the words.

So it was good to be able to educate them with proper music like:

- "Don't Give Up On Us, Baby" by David Soul
- "Nobody Does It Better" by Carly Simon
- "The Things We Do For Love" by 10cc
- "How Deep Is Your Love?" by The Bee Gees

I expect those students must sit open-mouthed downstairs and say to each other, "Gosh those people upstairs are so COOL." And then they will burn their Kanye posters and replace him with Suzi Quatro.

To be fair, we totally are. We are so cool we like the Roger Moore Bond films best which is something most people will not admit to. But Daniel Craig did not have a robot dog and Sean Connery never aimed a gun at a man's willy and said, "Speak now or forever hold your piece".

I rest my case.

And then there's Abba. Me & Er Indoors actually remember when Abba were NOT COOL because your parents liked them. But we liked them anyway. Er Indoors remembers singing along to "I Feel Like An Eagle" with her mum.

And now they are cool again. Soon it will be Roger Moore's turn. You'll see.

S.

p.s. Do you ever hit the "One Year Ago" button on Blip? I just did this and realised my entry from last year is ALSO about doing chores while listening to 1970's music.

It is somewhat upsetting that I have evolved so little. This time next year I expect I will be pushing the vacuum around while listening to Boney M.
