La sucrerie Gardel

We rode a few miles out of town today to visit one of two sugar factories in Guadeloupe. An amazing adventure, seeing the unloading of the cane (first extra)  to the mashing, separating, evaporating and then packaging. The tour was in French but two young men from Paris (extra two is one of the young men with the guide)  were kind enough to interpret as we went along. We invited them to come visit us:) Then we continued with the cane theme and toured the Distillerie Damoiseau (fourth extra) where they just let you wander around among the vats and the machinery, more mashing of cane, fermenting and distilling. It seemed a lot easier to make rum than sugar:)
