macbeth
this afternoon D, Luke, Sarah and I went to see "Macbeth" at the Theatre Royal in Dumfries. It was a production by the Icarus Theatre Collective, billed as "Shakespeare for the Game of Thrones generation." Some blurring of gender roles, an awful lot of blood and very impressive fight scenes, all by a cast of only 9 actors.
The theatre was almost empty because the schools who had booked most of the seats had cancelled, apparently because they considered that the pupils had already lost too much teaching time due to closures in the recent snowy weather. Sad for the Theatre Royal, which surely must have been running this performance at a loss. I've decided that we should go more often, and support this wonderful local venue, which is the oldest working theatre in the whole of Scotland. You can read more about its history HERE.
