Lost Words?

There have been many birds in the garden today, which are a joy to watch. The picture is from the book 'The Lost Words' by Robert MacFarlane, with beautiful illustrations by Jackie Morris (blipped previously by PaulaJ). It apears that children no longer recognise the names of common birds such as heron, kingfisher and heron, as well as brambles, willow and conkers. I'm sorry, I just don't accept this.
