Everyday I Write The Book

Hitting all the right buttons

After a gentle start to our day off together, we took a train to London and made our way to Mount Pleasant, spiritual home of mailpeople across the country. Another one of TSM’s treats to celebrate my hitting 60 in September. Here you can see Penny Blacks, turbaned delivery men, mail trains, telephone boxes, old films, and even pneumatic delivery systems (TSM and I declared our love for each other in these things of course and sent our words whizzing through the air in the long tubes).

TSM took this shot of me in an old telephone box. If you can remember Button B you are even older than I am.

Before this we had taken a ride on the Mail train that runs for seventeen miles from east to west London, Whitechapel to Paddington. Very well done but not for the claustrophobic. I walked off with my knuckles scraping the ground like a baboon and needed to make a special effort to recover homo erectus status.

Went to By Chloe for late lunch. This is a dirty vegan place off Covent Garden where we had tofu fish and chips and burgers, absolutely first class food, a recent import from New York. So nice to eat somewhere where the menu is 100% plant based.

We then went up to New Oxford Street where I may have bought a new camera. I’ve been stalking this one for a while and recently decided that my Year Of Living Amazingly deserved better than just iPhone pictures (much as I respect the iPhone camera it is limited).

Got home well before dark. Been a fab day, quite awesome. A little bit of snow, just enough to make the walking around Holborn, Covent Garden and The Inns of Court romantic. Yes, very cold particularly in any sort of wind; but a fab day.

I am a lucky man.
