Garlic chives flowers

Still producing flowers. The black aphids love them and I leave them to it because they don't go on anything else. Every now and again I run my fingers up the leaves to get rid of a few.

It has been a stunning blue sky day. Getting near the official end of summer. Harvesting of hops and apples underway despite the damage to roads. Orchards except for a few are virtually untouched.

I rang a cousin who lives up Little Sydney Valley . The reason for the damage? After a day of heavy rain totalling well over 100mm (4 inches) they had in one hour, 3-4pm, another 100mm. We only got 40mm on the flat in that hour after 100mm all day. No wonder the hills slipped, the creeks and streams blocked and it all came flowing down the roads. The last time it happened the same was 1990. She didn't suffer too badly other than their road access only for 4 wheel drive, they have lost trees that have stood for 20 or more years. A pine tree across the road fell as we spoke. A lot of her garden went down in a slip as did the woodshed. They had a waterfall feature at one part which was quite pretty. They pulled their water pumps out of the creeks. They were prepared.
The reason they fared so well was because they had clean banks on all their ditches and creeks and they had done some very expensive drainage work with their neighbours. Some neighbours wouldn't join in and now they are paying the price.

I see we get Cyclone Kevin this coming week. Happy Days.

Thanks to Biker Bear for the flower challenge on Fridays
