An Indoor Forrest!
Sunday is my favourite day of the week. It always starts off the same with a nice bowl of porridge plus (addition of a spoonfull of Nutella and a handful of almonds) then it's off on my bike up to the local sports centre for my favourite class of the week Sunday morning RPM with the Stupendous Shona!
I made the mistake of telling the aforementioned Stupendous one that I sweated more in Body Step than in RPM so this morning during the interval track she told the rest of the peleton that I was out in front and they had to chase me down! Let's just say that they did catch me and that I did sweat more than in Body Step. I felt like an olympic athlete, towards the end everybody was shouting "come on Paul" and it really pushed me on. I did see stars but it was worth it.
It may seem strange to some that I would cycle up to the gym to cycle in an old squash court with trees painted on the wall but they are really two different activities. Whenever I am in this room, I am reminded of the text an the label of my Cyclo-Cross jumper:
"Once, this forest echoed to the shrill blast of the hunting horn. Red coats and jodhpurs rumbling on horseback, relishing the chase as the bloodhounds forged ahead. Now, like a fugitive fox, you go skidding and churning through brambles, mud, and thickets. A raging crowd screams, amplifying the thumping heart-rate, rushing lungs and burning legs. The final obstacle, a steep ramp of sand and grit, is all that lies between sanctuary and being caught by the pack."
A great coach brings the best out in you!
