I love this shot of Arkte, one of our sun bears. She seems to be torn between devouring the string beans or rubbing them all over herself (she is particularly known for rubbing and stretching things across her head!). Our bear manager S. once watched her pick up a frog (we think it was deceased already...) and rub it all over herself before stretching it across her head like a swimming cap! For the frog's sake I really it wasn't alive at that point!

Bit of a sad, depressing day today. A few weeks ago I saw three very cute puppies for their first vaccination and health check. They were covered in fleas and ticks, and riddled with worms. I tried to educate the owner that the lady she keeps buying her puppies from is a very very bad breeder.. although I don't think she listened to me.

This week saw all three puppies admitted to hospital with vomiting / diarrhoea / lethargy. One puppy didn't make it past a few days and the other two have been gradually deteriorating to the point where I had to euthanase them both tonight :(. Three gorgeous little pups that had everything going against them from the day they were born. They spent all week in hospital and the owner hadn't even once enquired as to how they were doing. I cried tonight. A little bit because I had to put them to sleep, but mostly because of the helpless situation they are born into and for all the others that find themselves without anybody to give them the loving care they deserve.

RIP little Vang, Van and Ve.
