Sunbeams

Esentepe and guess where?

Without looking up the name, try and guess where this is, a country village on the northern coast.

Better in LARGE.

We arrived the day before yesterday and Hassan, our friends' taxi driver picked us up in the dark at the airport and drove us to the north passing through some no-mansland and the border.

Today we travelled up into the mountains visiting an old monastery church whose walls are covered with disfigured icons. We drove down through this village where children played in the quiet tree-shaded streets and men sat in groups drinking coffee. A few women with headscarves fleetingly appeared and disappeared. Sheep were crowded in corrugated iron sheds in the little farmsteads and small bales of straw lay under tarpaulins amongst the olive groves.
