Quakers' Acre
Peeping through a little archway into the garden known as Quakers' Acre. It appears this used to be a burial ground and the original Quaker's Meeting House, although the meeting house is now on the opposite side of the road. See information here: Guildford Quakers. My second snap is of the plaque beside the archway, giving more details.
This little garden used to be frequented by the local "special brew" gang, but it seems they have been moved on now, although they often loiter near the cinema complex beside the River Wey. As a result, I don't think I have ever actually set foot in this garden, as there is no alternative way out (should you feel cornered)...which is silly really, as it is probably a lovely place to sit quietly for a few moments.
Anyway, I took the opportunity to walk into town and up to the main post office at the top of North Street, meandering back down North Street via the bank and Lakeland...before heading up The Mount towards home, getting through the front door just as it started to rain (phew). A tidy distance of about 4.5 miles.
Thought for the day:
"Worry is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but gets you nowhere." (Unknown)
