Red doors
This is the second time these doors have been remade since we were here, the earlier ones having been given a serious drubbing by our 'pet' ram. The roof is also a replacement for the original slatework that was too dilapidated to repair, too expensive to renew.
On the wall beside the left hand door the date 1760 is engraved on one of the stones. In that year George III ascended to the English throne, Laurence Sterne published Tristram Shandy and in Jamaica Tacky's Rebellion saw 400 West African slaves rising against their brutal captivity. Quelled with much bloodshed, it was just one of many such revolts that paved the way to eventual freedom from slavery.
