A place in time

Carving

I have blipped this chap before, but here he is again...he caught my eye in a ray of sunlight in his corner of the kitchen.  He sits atop my small corner freezer, so I have to lift him up every day to get to the contents therein.  I always marvel at the workmanship of creating something like this from a large block of wood.  Sadly, I know nothing of its history as I bought it from my favourite antiques shop a number of years ago.  It could be old or it could be new-ish...but it's certainly heavy, being roughly 37cm to the top of his tail feathers.

Looking around the house, I can see many dear things that I have acquired from Bourne Mill Antiques, so I dearly hope the building can be restored and business resumed.  The building is still an empty shell after the fire in 2015, athough some recent progress has been made in that the roof repairs appear to have been completed and the tarpaulin & scaffolding are now down.  Take a look at this:  https://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/surrey-news/bourne-mill-fire-shock-blaze-10496894

Thought for the day:
