The Transports
A long awaited night out at The Maddermarket Theatre in Norwich to see The Transports, a folk opera with narration on the theme of exile and migration. Penned in the 1960's but based on a true story from the 1780's the new arrangement, with some new lyrics and featuring some of the best young talent on the folk scene, is a very powerful musical entertainment.
"It's the tale of a family destroyed, and of a family rebuilt. It's a tale of those who live at the bottom of the heap, the flotsam of the world, who have little control of their lives, yet still grasp for joy. It's a tale of exile. It's a tale of migration - how history is shaped by the crossing of oceans by desperate people. And it's also a love story. But love comes at a price. And the price here is to be ripped from all you know and plunged into all that you fear. ........................."
You can hear it in full on the BBC iPlayer until Feb 8th 2018

Great to have a mini blipmeet with Norfolkdoc in the interval and to be able to share the evening with Jamie and our good friend Shelagh.
Oh yes - 2000th Blip! No apologies for diverging from the botanical theme of so many of my blips to highlight both great art and a continuing story that effects us all. Thanks to everyone who comments and befriends me here. A lifeline. We transport each other to better places through our contact.
