National Stone Centre
Leaving the Midlands after brunch and blether with one of my brothers we investigated this place near Wirksworth, which we thought might improve our understanding of Geology. It seems we missed the best part.
We bought the guide and tried to follow it but, like one of the reviews, found the route confusing. The centre covers several quarries, apparently with interesting features but with no access to the rock face it was impossible to examine closely - perhaps hard hats could be provided....
An excellent feature is the demonstration drystone wall, with 19 different regional styles and the method of construction explained.
We didn't have time to stay long so that's another place to return.
