A Cathedral Grew Here.
The view of the remains of Old Sarum Cathedral from the ruins of the castle. Of course the Romans were the first to build here, then William the Conqueror turned up and built a castle, then the Archbishop of Canturbury,Lanfranc, gave planning permission for a Cathedral. The castle residents fell out with the clergy, so in 1220 the clerics moved down the hill and built Salisbury Cathedral next to the river.
Now a much used and enjoyed walking spot for Bonzo`s and Fido`s.
