New Year’s Resurrection

As part of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay there is a light show called New Year’s Resurrection running through most of January. It is a story by Val McDermid celebrating the writer Susan Ferrier, an Edinburgh writer now largely forgotten. The reason being that she is a woman; however,she received an advance of £1000 for her second novel, which must have been a small fortune in the 1820s. In her day, (early 19th century), she was as popular as Sir Walter Scott, yet he has a monument and she has nothing. We didn’t quite complete the trail but will do next week. The best projection was under the Waterloo Arch near the back of Waverley Station. Here women take their revenge against men; the blip shows someone being pushed off Salisbury Crags (I think).
