Day out

.... at Lacock Village and Abbey as well as the Photography museum.

Joined the conservation tour of Lacock Abbey - admit neither me or hubby keen at first but the NT lady said it was an opportunity to see areas not often seen by the public - we were sold. Very interesting tour, around an hour, explaining (briefly) what is involved with the conservation work of NT properties, what challenges there are (pests, dust, age etc) and background info on the cleaning/conservation work carried out. Around the Abbey were a number of the “mousetrap cameras”.

Small experimental 'Mousetrap' camera with lens, 1834-1836, made by William Henry Fox Talbot.
The Mousetrap camera was a simple wooden box camera with a brass barrel single lens. The camera was made by a local joiner to Talbot's plan, the same joiner would go on to make a whole set. It was named the Mousetrap by Talbot's wife.
