Mary's Gogos

In Malawi Gogo is an affectionate name for a Granny and maybe its because she's one herself that she has a special spot for them.
These are no ordinary women, but those who after rearing their own families have to restart and rear grandchildren because of the AIDS pandemic,
This is gogo Chisi, born sometime in the thirties and married so long ago that she can't even remember. She never went to school but is as bright as a button.
Her son and five grandchildren live nearby, while she lives alone.
She is one of Br Ephram's special gogos, who require monthly support and many visits. What a joy it was to accompany him today. The spirit and heart of St John of God is truly visible in the work of this young, SJOG, Malawian brother.
