Mother's Day in Malawi

Mary met up with an adult education group with their tutors in MICA, They told their stories, talked about their dreams and plans and of course celebrated with song, dance and drama (about the school and what education has done for them).
Mary brought yellow buns, drinks and lollipops. Grace read a letter composed by the group in Mary's honour (in Tumbuka) and Miriam translated into English.
Finally they made her an honorary member of the group and dressed her in the traditional chitinge, with Happy Mother's Day printed on the material!
Big news: Six of the group will study standard seven course in St John of God
where there will be a big welcome for them and next Year they will complete their Primary Education.
The remainder will continue with their Adult Literacy in MICA. This includes the two really brave ones, Ellen and Rose, both mothers of five children who never before spent a day in school before.
The refreshments were courtesy of my mother, who celebrated her 86th birthday today. This is how personal it gets.
Today, the President, Joyce Banda had a very formal do for Women of Substance, she might well have come here!
