Flatford Mill

Down in Constable Country we took the official tour, which showed the locations of some of Constable's more well-known paintings, including the dry dock, the bridge, the weir and, of course, the view of Willy Lotts's Cottage by the ford, which appear in The Hay Wain (from where this photo was taken, looking to the right as the classic view is against the sun). The 'business end' of the mill - sluice gates and eel ladder - lies behind this charming frontage.

We took a trip on the electrically-powered boat, which slid silently up the River Stour between the pollarded willows, then headed off, discovering East Bergholt Church with its Bell Cage (lots of links here) and calling in on Felixstowe on the way back to the cottage.
