Pots of paint

These are some of the pots for the painting by numbers picture I'm doing but what puzzles me are the two little white pots, a spirit level and some bits with spikes coming out of them. I can't find any mention of these.

The spirit level makes sense but I have no idea what to do with the other bits.

Couldn't really relax to do anything more to the painting despite it being done to take my mind off things, I seem to need my mind clear before I can even begin.
