Soccer Saturdays are back.
Spartans is now 11-12 for both; a fact I did not know until 1003 on Saturday. So we came home, had a coffee (me) and toast (them) before regrouping at 11.
Both enjoyed it / played well and off home we went for some soup and sandwiches.
For a third time we trod the same route back to Ainslie Park just before 3; where we teamed up with Pensioner to watch Edinburgh City take on runaway league leaders Mo Mo Super Mo (Super Montrose FC).
£6 for me and the 2 lads; £6 for winter break season ticket holding Pensioner, it was value for money.
And a first - a female ref. Who sadly didn't seem to know the rules; awarding free kicks that weren't and ignoring those that were.
City hit the bar x 2 around the half hour mark and the experienced ones told Tom to watch for the sucker punch. Which duly arrived. Followed by another from a free kick that was never a free kick. She went on to suck the life out of ECFC by awarding a penalty for heavy breathing in an offside position (there was no other obvious infringement) but justice was done when the ECFC keeper saved it.
At half time we availed ourselves of pies and bovrils; thankfully the macaroni pie was successfully consumed this time around and an entirely tepid 2nd half was played out bar a sending off for wearing non matching socks or something.
We bade the Pensioner farewell and trudged off down the psychopath to Matty's; spotted a new Cigs (to me) and then deposited the big yin at Matty's for a sleepover.
Me and the wee yin went off on a 23 to hers; he settled into DS / laptop / TV stuff and we had a peaceful dinner of duck and mango curry.
Home by 9; tucked Alex up and settled into MOTD before crashing out.
Tom wistfully remembers his last game of football as a spectator at St James Park - Newcastle v Leicester - as yet another high ball is hoofed up to Edinburgh''s gangly centre forward.
Extra is the lads talking about PS4 games - FIFA 18, perhaps?
