In Memoriam

Today is the anniversary of my father's death. He was quite a character. I gathered together a few things that remind me of him - a photograph of him as a young man, another from when he served on the HMS Eagle during his national service and one of my great-grandfather's stationary shop in Eccles founded in 1898. Stronachs later became the family stationary and printing business until the recession of the 1980s. The shell casing, I believe was from national service at Suez in the Navy, the weight is from the original family business, and the Davy Lamp was passed down from my grandfather's family.

The word 'Eagle' is spelled out on the deck of the aircraft carrier by sailors. I'm not sure if my father took this, or if he was one of the sailors on deck.

I find it very comforting to have these things around me, reminding me of my own and my family's past and keeps them alive for me in my everyday life.
