bee swarm
As per yesterday's blip here is a closer look at the HUGE bee swarm that has taken up residence in an old tree in neighbour S's garden.
The whitish bits are honeycomb gills and according to our next door neighbour T, who is a bee keeper, the would make up the 'heart' of this mass of bees.
I'm starting to think our street is bee central. T has removed swarms from trees in our backyard ( and that is something to see, 'pinching' the neck of the swarm and lowering it into a box in tact) and we have a resident hive in a wall (which is not a good thing!)
