Paul Bunyan
Many states with a logging history lay claim to being the home of Paul Bunyan. We have seen statues in Michigan, Minnesota, and Maine. Quite often on the statues, he is accompanied by his big blue ox Babe.
Since he first appeared in print in a story by Northern Michigan's James MacGillivray in 1906...we Michiganders obviously will have to argue that Michigan, and specifically Oscoda, Michigan is his REAL home. There...that argument is OVER.
The rain that I complained about yesterday...came back even heavier. Everybody at the campsite packed up, and headed for home. The pictures of the big logger were the only ones I took today.
There is a bonus PAUL BUNYAN on my Flickr page today. It is of my wife Lisa...taken in 2005...in Rumford, Maine. I hate to give away the picture...but she is trying to see if the statue was anatomically correct. Luckily...she couldn't reach, although it might have been fun to see how Paul reacted. His face may have matched his shirt.
With no computer Up North...I back blipped the last 2 days.
For a lighthouse picture...click here.
For a sand dune color shot...click here.
Thanks. Will catch up on the morrow. My laptop is down, and Lisa wants this computer.
P.S. We did have one bright spot this weekend. Our oldest daughter Julie got some ring bling on her finger last night. She and her boyfriend Benton are officially engaged. I see a wedding in our future. We gave them a standing ovation, while standing under the rain soaked awning. May they continue to grow in love. AMEN!
