Uprooted stump

I didn't get time to post this yesterday. Last winter a huge tree came down beside the river and was removed from the path, sawn up and left for the wildlife to colonize. This enormous stump shoes how big it was. Out of shot to the right is the rest of the main trunk, sawn into two pieces. I guess it'll be here for decades now as it slowly progresses through the cycle of decay, hosting all sorts of creatures who'll make a home there.
