College Fjord

Back blip

A day spent viewing the many amazing glaciers in this fjord. A second day of the ship moving very slowly and maneuvering so that we could see and photograph at our leisure.

The Captain allowed crew that would normally be working below decks to come up to crew area to take photographs to send home to their families. A nice gesture, that I’ve not seen before.

The glacier in the picture is “calving”, the term for bits falling off. You can see the greyish cloud rising from the water.

Ps I've added an extra picture in extras. It show how the glacier comprises of a number of arms of ice joining up. Each containing the rocks and dirt picked up on their edges (lateral moraines). When joined up the dirty stripe is called a median moraine.
