how many beans make five?

R and I picked, podded, counted and washed the borlotti beans this morning. All our veg harvests this year have been terrible - I'm glad we're not subsistence farmers. She had fun, though and didn't mind that there weren't more beans. I was told, very sternly, not to eat them!
