Winter colour

I woke on Friday morning to a white winter wonderland. The snow kept falling all day and we had to cancel a trip to Edinburgh to visit friends. The roads would be fine, the gritters and snowploughs work hard to keep the Borders moving however the track down to the farm is a quarter mile ski piste! Our cars have snow tyres etc but........one chap attempted to visit with a trailer to deliver a mini excavator to a new house build. Big mistake! He slipped/slid his way into a jack knife situation halfway down the track blocking us all in for a fair bit of time. Eventually the trailer was unhitched and pulled out from under his car, the excavater reloaded and all safely delivered to the build site. Then, the chap had to get back up the track with his empty trailer, no it just wasn't going to happen. The track has a sharp right hand bend half way up, so even with a good head of steam to get up you must slow down to get round the corner! Hah, backwards he came all the way down to the farm yard. We have several sets of chains but none would fit his tyres, the trailer was unhitched and off he went again. This time success.
Yesterday proved even more entertaining with several delivery vans coming down and of course getting stuck. They all had to be towed up much to the amusement of friends who came to visit but knew to leave their car at the top of the track and walk down. Ah the joys of rural living....

A couple of extra pics taking on my afternoon walk through the farm, one of the new Alpacas looking bemused in the snow and a Blue face tup with ox peckers   starlings.
