Artist At Work

We set off south as the snow started and all the way down there were dire warnings of heavy snow causing chaos in Scotland, Cumbria and across the Pennines.
There was spray from wet roads, a bit of fog, a bit of rain and a fairly short section of the A1(M)  from Scotch Corner where the local authority had failed to comply with their contract and keep all three lanes clear of snow (making it actually more dangerous) and that was it.
No problems at all and most certainly no chaos.

We stopped at Rheged outside Penrith and went in to see the print exhibition.
That is where I came across the artist preparing his lump of limestone to print the picture he drew on it yesterday. He was using Gum Arabic and acid in a process that was far too complicated for me to understand fully.
He was then going to attempt to print it - assuming everything didn't just wipe off (his description - not mine). But in best Blue Peter style Here is one he prepared earlier - from this.

After booking into the hotel we headed over to No1 son's where Butterfly was delighted with her camera that we brought back from The States.
Her mother was delighted with her Yorkshire rose that was made by one of the members of the craft association.

One of the family cats was given a bath (nerves at going to the vet got the better of him) before Butterfly took over. I am not sure why she needed her goggles.
