Sarah.
The camera club were invited to cover the town Christmas market; there were eighteen of us, all equipped with official badges and Hi-Viz jackets. The club treated it as an outing with experienced members helping novices with the various challenges of street photography. The town provided us with refreshments, and the authority and confidence to approach people and ask if they minded being photographed.
There were rules, we were to respect peoples’ wishes if they did not want to be in our pictures and were to delete pictures on request. Neither of these ever happened. The delightful Sarah had no problem with being one of my victims; I would even go so far as to say that she positively solicited my attentions and expressed the desire to have a copy of this Blip. She was singing in one of the school choirs and is, I think, younger than she looks so I suggested that she get her parents to contact me through the club web site. I’m sure that there would be no problems if I dealt with her request directly but I’m not prepared to take that risk. Santa has also asked for a picture I took of him, but he hasn’t actually seen it and I’m sure there were much better ones of him taken.
The actual ignition of the Christmas lights was a bit of an anti-climax and I didn’t know how to approach the subject from the middle of the scrum that had formed by actual moment. I may try and Blip them before they’re taken down so that I have a better idea for next year. Next Year? Our attendance has been already requested in a letter of thanks for today’s efforts.
By the end of the ceremonies I was feeling quite Christmassy, but it’s worn off now.
