Page From The Old Autograph Album.

This is from the same album as one I recently posted about the X-Ray camera. The contributors took a lot of care with their entries.  This could be an early Ford model, as it was drawn in 1904. The Motor Car Act was introduced in 1903, making it compulsory for every motor car to be registered with a number plate. This was 5 years after Dutch authorities first introduced the idea to the world.  The cars had to be licensed annually at a cost of 20 shillings (£1) The driving tests started on British roads 1st June 1935, due to the number of casualties. Disabled drivers were tested in 1930. The examiners were from the police or services. The first person to pass his test at a cost of 7 shillings and sixpence (37.5p)  was Mr R.Beere   ( good name, no breathalisers then !)    Info from Wicki.
