Graffiti in a tea cup
I haven't seen much graffiti around this end of the island, but I quite liked the little character inside a Telus phone box. Have to go to town tomorrow so I might spot something there. If only I had a trip into Victoria planned...saw some fabulous graffiti last time we were there.
We're looking forward to Barney Bentall and the Caribbo Express show tonight. This is the third year that the show has come here, and we thoroughly enjoyed the last two. The show travels to different communities to raise money for local food banks. All funds raised are matched by the Bentall family's Hawthorne Foundation - and since the food bank here relies entirely on donations, this is much appreciated. Some of the best Canadian roots and country musicians perform, and the banter in between songs is always humorous, with local businesses being featured in the dialogue.
Quote from the local paper: "The Cariboo Express has become a sought-after event across western Canada. It makes a significant impact on each community it touches with both its fundraising model and highly engaging show."
I wish that there wasn't a need for food banks and think it's atrocious that there is in such a wealthy country. Approximately 20% of children in this province live in poverty, higher than the national average. Today is Children's Day, so a show that contributes to food banks to help families in need is timely, and it's an excellent way for those of us who donate to the food bank to have our donations doubled.
