Lake Como

Great weather today. We decided we would take a drive around Lake Como. The intention was to go round to the North, then South to Lecco, before returning via Como to Menaggio.

In the main the road sticks close to the coast, we made our first stop at the northern tip of the Lake at a town called Colico. Not the most picturesque place in the world, but quite pleasant, and spectacular views of the mountains.

Next stop, and where this photo is taken, Varenna. This definitely falls in the picturesque category. We spent quite a long time here, and had an ice cream. After enjoying Varenna, the warm sunshine the time for a decision approached. Continue on the way round, maybe two to three hours, or take the car ferry and be back in Menaggion in about 10 minutes. We settled for the ferry.

HAving returned to the hotel we walked down the hill to the town centre for a well deserved glass of wine.
