Genoa harbour

A man stands on the rail, taking in the last rays of the sun that had only poked out for a short while, and then behind cloud, today in Genoa harbour. Beyond him is one of the superyachts that berth here.

Spare a thought for their owners. A yacht broker told me this morning of one of his clients who had taken delivery of a Euros 21m yacht just a few years ago. The owner had just sold it for a Euros 8m loss. In all the time he had owned it, the man had spent just 250 hours on the yacht - less than a fortnight.

This means it had cost him £32,000 an hour to try yachting for a few days, only to discover he didn't like it.

"He realised after buying it he wasn't interested in yachts. He just thought he ought to have one. Then realised he'd made a mistake." The man thanked the broker for selling it. "Why, when you lost so much?" said the broker.

"It was like taking a pin out out of my foot," said the man.

The gallery is taking shape. Today's pic was a toss up between action and light and light won, although it was great watching the flag chuckers. The chap in the image has four on the go all at once.
