Guitar Hero
Another day in the excellent company of Goatee meant more food, drink, galleries, museums and music! Hurrah!
A particular highlight was our visit to the new(ish) British Music Experience at the Cunard Building down at the Pier Head.
We were in agreement that they should halve the entrance price and double their visitor numbers but, that aside, it made for a diverting way in which to while away a Sunday afternoon!
We saw displays covering British popular music from the 1940s to the present day - from Trad Jazz and Skiffle through to Grime. I particularly enjoyed the stage costumes and instruments belonging to everyone from Acker Bilk and Lonnie Donegan to Billy Fury, Dusty Springfield, Sandie Shaw, The Beatles and Stones, David Bowie, Black Sabbath, The Sweet, Slade, Motörhead, The Clash, Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, Aswad, Adam Ant, Boy George, Madness, Annie Lennox, Stone Roses, Blur, Pulp, Spice Girls and beyond to Amy Whitehouse, Adele and Dizzy Rascal.
But the highlight was definitely the opportunity to have a go on a variety of instruments!
We spent quite some time playing around on synthesisers, drum kits and a plethora of acoustic and electric guitars and basses. It was heaven, I tell you!
I discovered to my delight that a Gibson Les Paul really can make anyone’s guitar playing sound amazing, but my favourite guitar was undoubtedly a lovely red hollow-bodied Epiphone. A thing of beauty.
And speaking of beauty... here’s Goatee making some sweet music on a Gibson acoustic! See also the Extra.
And here’s one of my favourite British bands, The Clash, with a song that’s as relevant today as it was back in 1980 - ‘Something About England’ www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFU6EF8vJAc
Come back soon, Goatee. And bring LOH and ‘Appy next time too!
