Some Summer Chicks
Lisa and I took off this morning on a pumpkin search/color tour. It was 45 F, windy, and overcast. Not great...but she works all week. What's a guy to do?
Good golly jeepers...we were leaf peepers. The changing tree colors are funny. Dull and ugly in spots...stunning in others. The reds and the yellow-golds are my favorites.
We picked up some pumpkins, and some more gourds. We also had world famous chicken for lunch in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Tourists were everywhere in the city. Hard to even find a place to park. I thought there was a recession going on.
After the chicken, and some bakery samples...we hit one of our favorite pumpkin stands...just outside of town. Pumpkins, gourds, chickens, sunflowers, and solid white peacocks.
The elderly lady who owns the place is quite unique. Her husband died 4 years ago, and she has been trying to run the farm herself...with help from her daughter who lives next door. She is 89, and loves to dance. Her dance partner is some 100 year old guy from Bay City. She must like the older guys.
She does have a claim to fame. Supposedly, she has a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. Or...at least her cat does. She has a cat that has 25 toes. She showed us the cat one year...but I tried to forget. Feline fee-nom-en-nons are NOT my favorite.
We never have learned her name. I think she looks like a Gertrude...so Gertie it is. She talked to Lisa for 20 minutes...while I snapped the young chickens. Felt just a bit guilty after our lunch.
I put Gertie, some color, a different cat, and a fancy Lutheran church on my Flickr page. Be a leaf-peeper, and go see.
