A Magical Moment

We had a busy morning today. On our way home we spotted a raptor flying though the trees. We were able to pull over and to our amazement and delight it landed atop this sign, right in front of us. My first thought was that it was a Kestrel - we have plenty around here -  but we were close enough to see that it wasn't. Our verdict was that it was a Merlin. Sadly, I didn't have my camera with me. I tried to get some sort of shot with my phone, but it flew off before I got the chance. We finished our drive home and grabbed a camera and binoculars and went back to see if we could see it again. I thought I caught a glimpse of it through the trees, but another sighting was not to be.
