Swiss traffic jam!

Back from Portugal and we had just turned into the village of Ollon when a police car indicated we had to pull into the side of the road. We thought a big vehicle must be coming down but no, we arrived at the same time as they were bringing the cows down from higher pastures towards their winter quarters (I hope not the abbatoir!) Yes they are wearing trees and flowers on their heads, and milking stools too!

Transhumance - the cows go up then come down again, from spring to autumn, staying in the high pastures for the summer months. This is still the way after centuries, in Switzerland. Home again but not for long ....
