A Touching Moment
Today was the day when The Yard users and staff finally got to set foot inside their glorious new surroundings. I think it would be fair to say they were not disappointed! Tears flowed, screams of delight filled the air and the children set about getting familiar with their new Yard, with smiles from ear to ear.
The 200+ tradesmen/women and helpers flowed into The Yard in what seemed like a never-ending stream of bodies. Staff, children and parents cheered and clapped and more tears flowed - even the big, burly builders were finding it hard to hold back. We spent a few hours chatting to folk and finally getting a chance for a good walk round to see the end result. The children were so overjoyed in their new surroundings, a few I spoke to said they would now like to live at The Yard - can't say I blame them!
It really is a staggering achievement to have delivered something so out-of-this-world in such a short time. Large companies, small companies, individuals - all giving their time, materials and expertise to such a worthwhile project. Truly phenomenal acts of kindness and generosity that will live long after they have left The Yard.
The show airs in November, to coincide with Children in Need. Watch out, it'll be a tear jerker!
I've had to change from the original picture as it appears we are not allowed to show any photos before the show airs. So instead, this was the point where 200 builders were ushered into a small space to shoot the opening of the show. I thought it was rather sweet that the big guy was being fussed over by his colleague, making sure his scarf was perfectly placed - he wasn't complaining either! Bless.
