Pie-rotechnics
Soggy cycle to brunch with Berry and Helen with the affirmation that a) they're as awesome as ever, and b) my mudguard setup is not equipped for wet winter weather.
Train ride to my old stomping ground (although I wasn't ever really there) of Ely to have lunch at the tea room with Thomasina and Laura. I came away with my first mince pie as Laura loaded me up for my return journey. Tom's mum was displaying some of her silver jewellery at a craft fair so I browsed the other stalls and acquired an enamel painting for my bathroom. My flat should look less 'show home' and more personal. When buffeted by the wind throughout I was reminded that the fens are a special notch up from Cambridge, which is itself fairly windy.
Then to my work friend Victoria's, who's moved into a new quirky and historical house down the road. She hosted a BBQ before Cambridge's annual fireworks event in the centre of town. In the days prior she'd been excited about her halloumi strips, and they didn't disappoint. The fireworks were spectacular and then a friend noted that they're council funded, which made me livid. Some sponsors were credited at the end but I'm not in favour of any public money being used for such an event when Cambridge has such a homelessness crisis. Sure, the good citizens receive a boost to their general sense of merriment by going to 'oooh' and 'aaah' on the common but it's not as justifiable an expense as, for example, housing several homeless people for a year.
Late night life admin and writing of meeting minutes.
What a brilliant Saturday. Aside from the passing rage towards the council and the bird crud on my bike seat in Ely.
