We drove through utter devastation to get here, but our destination is beyond the forest fire zone in Portugal. It made for a very sobering drive from Porto, through scorched and blackened countryside on both sides of the road. The foothills of the Parque Natural looked like the moon, utterly devoid of life. Thankfully the other side of the mountain is untouched...
