Well, I could speculate all day on this one. Was the circus in town? Was it some sort of publicity stunt? Was somebody making a point to a history class? It pre-dates the first Cleopatra movie by about 45 years but might have been an event publicizing a theater production. Who knows. Personally, I think this is where yesterday's elephant with bad breath came from.
