Oh a what a perfect day
We had two free ScotRail tickets to Perth, so off we headed at 905 this morning.
We stopped for a coffee in Glasgow and then jumped the Queen Street to Perth train which was packed to the gunnels with other people with bits of paper - but a lot of them were going on to Inverness!
There were no seats til Stirling and then we got a lovely seat...
When we got off we wandered to the high street and browsed the shops and then walked to the Blackwatch museum. I was kinda sad I had missed the Poppy display .
Then we walked back to the town. Did some
More browsing and then headed for a late lunch. The restaurant we had set out hearts on had a big 'closed' sign on it, Great! Luckily. It's shut position was close to other eateries and we found a new one. Which sufficed.
Then we wander and browsed some more - 15.5 k steps by this time!!!!
Then we headed for the train which, according to the sign was 'full and standing'. What could this mean? Yeah. Exactly as it sounds. The train was full and people were standing.
As we stood in the aisle on top of each other. One woman kept coughing and nodding her head - I looked to where she was coughing : nodding and it was first class... go on I said. She said 'should we wait?' What is the worst that could happen? We get asked to leave..
So four of us entered the hallowed halls of the first class and bagged a seat. We sniggered like school kids about what we would say if the guard came out and then suddenly the door behind us opened and the guard did appear. Stared straight ahead and totally ignored us and walked out. Two minutes later he walked back in, again avoiding all eye contact and shut himself in again.
The host came along shortly after and said hello ... knocked the door for the guard but he didn't answer and he went away again too. So we all sniggered some more.
Then in Glasgow we headed to Doghouse Our favourite bar in the whole world! We nabbed a seat and enjoyed a few tipples before heading for the last train.
And on that last train - we were asked for our bit of paper for the first time that day. yes. We had been through six different guards and simply waved a sheet of a4 paper at them
